I'll never forget this experience

Craig O'Shea, client at the Limes, shares his experience of being involved in the Places of Change garden as well as last year's Key Garden...

"My Name is Craig O’Shea.  I’m 23 years old and I’ve been living at Chapter 1’s hostel, the Limes, for 16 months. I was referred to Chapter 1 due to family issues.

I was involved in the Chelsea Flower Show both last year and this year, and have been working with other residents telling them all about what happened at the Chelsea Flower Show and what it’s all about.  I’ve also been telling them about the brilliant time we had at the Eden Project, which we were invited to because of the work we did for the Flower Show.

We’ve been planting seeds for lettuces and bluebell bulbs for this year’s Show.  We’re watching these carefully to make sure that insects or rodents don’t damage them.  We all took part in the planting and we are impatiently waiting to see the end results….

Being involved in the Chelsea Flower Shower has taught me about horticulture and what can be done with plants.  I’ve learnt how to grow and nurture plants from bulbs or seeds and have seen the effect that they can have on the environment and on our own personal esteem.

Getting the Chelsea Flower Show ready was great and taught me a lot about team work which I found very rewarding.  The new skills I learnt on the preparation for the stand at the show are skills that will stay with me forever. We spent three days at the show, which is something that I will never, ever forget."

‘I was so proud to be involved in last year’s Show and I am even prouder that I am involved again this year.’
